The Los Angeles City Council today voted unanimously, 12-0, to approve the LA Unified School Board’s request to hold a June 3, 2014 election to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Marguerite LaMotte last month.
The Council vote is allows the city to coordinate with the board on the logistics of the election, which includes filing forms and the addition of the election onto the ballot of the statewide primary, which is scheduled for the same day.
It also allows the city to work with the school board on an Aug. 12 runoff election if no candidate in June gets more than 50 percent of the vote.
