The LAUSD School Board elections will soon be over, but there are lots of big issues and decisions that will follow.  Take a look at the following job announcement and let us know if you think you or someone you know might be right for the spot(s):

LA School Report, an independent daily news site devoted to covering education in Los Angeles, is seeking aggressive freelance journalists to cover the dynamic Los Angeles public school system (including the politics shaping our city’s education system, the debate over education reform, and the key players who influence policy decisions). This is not an aggregation or blog site; we’re dedicated to enterprise journalism and publish fully reported, original pieces.

Candidates must have professional newsroom experience, a commitment to quality journalism, and a serious nose for news. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of what makes a good story and have the capacity to proactively respond to daily developments with curiosity, creativity and urgency.

The right candidates will be highly proactive at finding and chasing stories, and have a knack for researching and distilling public policy issues into plain English. They must also be talented writers and editors. Especially important is the ability to write under deadline. Knowledge of education issues is less important than beat reporting experience: developing sources, confirming leads. Familiarity with digital tools and social media is a must. Candidates must live in Los Angeles and have transportation.

Interested candidates should email editor Alexander Russo at alexander@laschoolreport.com with clips and a resume.
