Today’s KPCC notes that a handful of big-name Hollywood types have begun donating campaign funds to the LAUSD School Board race for the first time — most of it in support of School Board President Monica Garcia.

If recent history is any guide, they won’t be the only relative newcomers who write checks (or make endorsements) in the three LAUSD races up for grabs March 5th. State and national teachers unions like the American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association may well put money down on the race — as may national school reform advocacy groups such as StudentsFirst, Democrats for Education Reform, and Stand for Children.

Already, outside endorsements are already starting to trickle in. Brooklyn-based former Bush education official Diane Ravitch (who in recent years has reversed most of her previous views on school reform) has endorsed District 4’s Steve Zimmer.
