The LAUSD Board of Education today unanimously and without discussion approved the district’s application for a $30 million Race to the Top application.

The board approved an application last year only for the submission to be rejected by the federal Department of Education, in part, because the teachers union refused to sign off on it.

UTLA President Warren Fletcher told LA School Report that he’d need to see the details of the application before making a decision on whether or not to support it this year.

“It’s hard to have a position before we’ve seen the thing,” he said.

Race to the Top is a federal competition among school districts, in an effort to provide incentives to implement various reforms. LAUSD has never won.
