School Board member Steve Zimmer was sworn in for his second term in office last night at Hollywood High School.
The event was emceed by former Board president and City Council member Jackie Goldberg and Sandra Figueroa-Villa, the executive director of El Centro Del Pueblo, a non-profit in Echo Park.
She praised Zimmer’s election as a victory over big money, and said that Zimmer’s re-election,taken along with Monica Ratliff’s upset, “We’ll be able to fashion a new majority.”
The oath of office was administered by Zimmer’s colleague, Board member Marguerite LaMotte. Board member Tamar Galatzan was also in the audience, as were a number of district employees and the majority of UTLA officers, including UTLA President Warren Fletcher, and Vice Presidents Gregg Solkovits and Betty Forrester.
Courtni Pugh, executive director of SEIU Local 99, which represents LAUSD classified employees, was also there, as was City Councilman Paul Koretz, whose district overlaps with Zimmer’s.
