MTA
MTA serves as transportation planner, coordinator, designer, builder and operator for Los Angeles County. More than 9.8 million people live and work within the 1,433-square-mile service area. The budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14 is $5 billion. The MTA is governed by a 13 member Board of Directors that includes the Mayor of Los Angeles and three mayoral appointees:

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Board of Public Works Commissioners are the chief administrators of the Department of Public Works, which plans and executes public projects and oversees 5,000 employees. It is the only full-time, policy-making board appointed by the Mayor that pays full-time salaries, about $130,000 a year. Commissioners require City Council confirmation.
