Late Monday afternoon, LAUSD board member Steve Zimmer announced an updated, much-softened charter school oversight proposal.

It replaces the previous moratorium on new charter schools with a request for charters to “voluntarily delay requesting action on new charter applications” until a new oversight scheme can be developed.

The new version also asks the Superintendent to put out a report on how charter oversight can be strengthened (instead of setting up a new board to review charters).

You can download the full motion here. You can see the previous version on the agenda for tomorrow’s board meeting, under item #26. The item could be voted on as soon as the November 13 board meeting. No word yet from the teachers union or the charter school community about their views on the revised plan.
